GROSS JOURNALISTIC BIAS

Mike Tremoglie writes:

"I would urge all of you to read two columns (here and here) in yesterday's Philadelphia Inquirer. ( It was inexplicably delivered to my house yesterday morning.) Then email the writers Acel Moore and Trudy Rubin, about their bias, their propaganda, and either their ignorance or their lies.

Acel Moore and Trudy Rubin's columns about Iraq and President Bush are incredible. Whether you were opposed or in favor of military action in Iraq, I think you will find these columns either contemptible or hilarious. The reasoning and tone of the essays reveal the authors' pro-liberal, pro-Democratic party, and anti-war bias.

For example, Rubin mentions "tax cuts for the rich." This is a sure DNC shibboleth. A phrase that apparently was first used by Harry Truman at the 1952 Democratic Party convention.

Examples of Moore's bias include remarks about "no credible evidence linking Hussein to the terrorists responsible for 9-11, " and of cuts in education to fund the war.

This is Democratic party propaganda pure and simple.

First, let me address Trubin's tax cuts for the rich remark. I still have yet to hear anyone define who "rich" is. The one occasion I recall a Democrat was asked to specify who was rich, was during an interview on Fox News Channel. The Democrat-and I cannot recall who it was- could not ( one reason liberal Democrats hate Fox News is the commentators are not slavishly devoted to Democrats like the other networks are).

It is no secret that people who earn the most pay the most percentage of taxes ( Treasury Dept. data confirmed this even during the Clinton administration). So if there are tax cuts for everyone, the people who earn the most will simply have their own income returned to them.

(Ironically, liberals never speak of trying to locate the $1 billion an audit of the US Dept of Education could not locate. And that is just one department. Besides I have a cousin who used to say that he would be more than happy to pay the same income taxes that Al Gore and Ted Kennedy pay.)

Second is Moore's "no credible evidence linking" Hussein and terrorists. These are examples of such reported evidence:

A - Farouk Hijazi, former Iraqi ambassador to Turkey and Tunisia, long believed to be the liaison between Iraq and al-Qaeda, was captured a month ago. Administration officials told Newsweek that Hijazi admitted meeting with Osama bin Laden in Sudan in the mid-1990s, confirming previous intelligence reports

B - A federal judge Wednesday ordered Usama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and others to pay nearly $104 million to the families of two Sept. 11 victims, saying there is evidence -- though meager -- that Iraq had a hand in the terrorist attacks. The judge in this case is a Democrat

C - The Herald (Glasgow, Scotland), December 28, 1999.

Iraq tempts bin Laden to attack West Exclusive. THE world's most wanted man, Osama bin Laden, has been offered sanctuary in Iraq if his worldwide terrorist network succeeds in carrying out a campaign of high-profile attacks on the West ...

D - U.S. Newswire, December 23, 1999. Terrorism Expert Reveals Why Osama bin Laden has Declared War On America; Available for Comment in Light of Predicted Attacks.

... (author Yossef) Bodansky also reveals the relationship between bin Laden and Saddam Hussein and how the U.S. bombing of Iraq is "strengthening the hands of militant Islamists eager to translate their rage into violence and terrorism." ....

E - The Observer. December 19, 1999.This time last year the U.S. claimed that another delegation had met Osama bin Laden, the alleged terrorist mastermind and tried to woo him to Iraq.

F - United Press International. November 3, 1999, WASHINGTON -- The U.S. government has tried to prevent accused terror suspect Osama bin Laden from fleeing Afghanistan to either Iraq or Chechnya, Michael Sheehan, head of counter-terrorism at the State Department, told a Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee ...

G - Former Navy Secretary John Lehman, a member of the congressional commission investigating the September 11 attacks, added to the intrigue this week when he flatly declared, "there is evidence" of Iraq-al Qaeda links

H-Judge is Gilbert S. Merritt, a federal appeals court judge invited to help Iraqis construct a legal system in postwar Iraq believes he is in possession of documents linking Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. Merritt is "a lifelong Democrat and a man of unimpeachable integrity." Here is an excerpt of his account:

The document shows that an Iraqi intelligence officer, Abid Al-Karim Muhamed Aswod, is ''responsible for the coordination of activities with the Osama bin Laden group.''

Maybe Moore can pretend he is journalist instead of a propagandist.

Regarding Moore's remark about education cuts funding. Wasn't it Ted Kennedy who was invited to the White House to write the education funding bill?

I do not know whether these Inquirer columnists are lying or just ignorant. However, there has been a noticeable increase in invective against the president by their columnists. It seems they are on a crusade and damn the truth."
